Location of Srinagar:
Situated on the banks of the Jhelum River, a tributary of the famous Indus River, the city of Srinagar is a heavenly abode on earth with numerous lakes and large expanses of green valleys spread throughout. These gardens are the nice example of the Mughal style of constructing attractive places. The name Mughal Gardens is given for the combination of three renowned gardens namely the Nishat Bagh, Shalimar Gardens and Chashmashahi. These gardens are tourists’ paradise and are beautifully decorated with bright flowerbeds, terraced lawns and well maintained cascading fountains. No tourist can miss these three nice marvelous gardens.

Dal Lake
Dal Lake, most populated tourist attraction in Srinagar, is renowned for its house boats and Shikaras. Dal Lake appeared and still continues to appear as a subject matter of many poems and articles.
The wonderful scenic lake extending an area of 26 square meters has been partitioned in to four areas by four causeways. Western part of the lake is enchanting with many Islands attracting tourists with its serenity and solitude.

Pari Mahal
Pari Mahal means House of the Fairies also known as Quntilon, is a historic monument placed above the beautiful Chashma Shahi Gardens near Srinagar. Ancient old monument brings out the architectural brilliance of the foregone age. A well-laid spacious garden surrounds this house, which was once a Buddhist monastery and later served as a school of astrology promoted by the eldest son of Shah Jahan, Dara Shikoh.

Hazratbal Mosque
A shrine known by different name, such as Dargah Sharif, Assar-e-Sharif and Madinat-Us-Sani, Hazratbal Mosque is placed on the banks of the majestic Dal Lake in its western side and is considered as one of the most important shrine of Muslims. With the impressive Nishat Bagh in the opposite, this enchanting white marble mosque offers a verdant look of the Lake in the back drop of scenic mountains.

Shankaracharya Temple
Shankaracharya Temple, assumed to be built by Jaluka, the son of Emperor Ashoka around 200 BC, is an ancient shrine located on the mount Shankaracharya Hill (Takht-e-Suleiman) in Srinagar. This site, situated at a height of about 1100 feet above the city, is believed to be a sacred one and offers splendid view of the down valley and the snowy mountains of the Pir Panjal range. Local folks tell a story that saint Shankaracharya spent some of his time at this site during his visit to Kashmir to revitalize Sanatan Dharma.

Chashm-e-Shahi Garden
Chashm-e-Shahi Garden, founded in 1632 with a length of 108 meters and breadth of 38 meters, is a small beautiful garden, the smallest among the famous Mughal gardens. This garden, also known as Royal Spring, is located nearby the Nehru Memorial Park in Srinagar.

Shalimar Bagh
Welcome to the most beautiful Garden in Srinagar, renowned as the monument of love. The Shalimar Garden, constructed by great Emperor Jahangir in 1616 for his beloved beautiful wife Nurjahan, “Light of the world�?, has four terraces and draws water through a canal from Harwan with imposing fountains. The highest terrace called as “Abode of Love�? was reserved for the king and the royal ladies.
The garden is illuminated by colorful electric lights which add to the charm of the place. There is a big tank around which nearly 150 fountains amaze the tourist with their display. Don’t miss this garden while visiting Srinagar. Many newly wedded couples visit this garden and spent their spare time in memory of the abode of love.

Boat
Shikara boats which operate around the picturesque lakes are cheap and have access to most of the important places of interest in Srinagar.
Best Seasons, Climate, and Clothing:
The climatic conditions in Srinagar are mostly alpine. Summers (April-June) are gentle and soothing while the winters (November-February) are icy cold. During December-February it is blessed with heavy snowfall. Srinagar is best visited during summers between the months of April and June. You will need to carry heavy woolens while traveling to Srinagar.
